My Christian Opinion on Marriage Equality.

How many people have seen the above picture sometime in their life? Where did you see it? Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, yard sign, bumper sticker, polling place, news station, graffiti? You get my point, you can or have seen it everywhere. I live in a state that actually voted against the amendment back a couple years ago.  But it was just announced a few days ago that it was unconstitutional and same sex marriage will be allowed. Almost immediately I was seeing posts on Facebook both happy and mad about it, but I didn't see any that were sad. But that is exactly how I feel.

I will start out by saying I am a Christian, (if you have read my post before this, you should know all about me). I believe that Jesus died for my sins. I am not a certain denomination. I was raised Baptist but I could not stand the backstabbing or “gossip” that happened. I have been to a Catholic church, Pentecostal and even let a Jehovah Witness talk to me. But I don’t believe in that, I believe in the bible. I go to a church that only speaks truth from the bible. They do not teach interpreted crap, twisted and turned to fit into their lifestyle.

I have strong beliefs in faith and following God's word and even so I am here to say what I believe most is that I AM a Christian. Huh? That’s right. As a Christian we are told to “love our neighbors” “to not judge others” “to obey the commandments of the father”. And, although I fail sometimes, this is what I try to do.

So we have come to know and to believe the love God has for us. God is love, and whoever abides in love abides in God, and God abides in him. – 1 John 4:16

You shall love your neighbor as yourself. There is no other commandment greater than these. – Mark 12:31

I love all the people I know that are gay, bi, straight, blue, yellow, sinners, liars, atheists, agnostics, Christian, Jewish, Muslim, tall, short, fat, skinny. I love everyone. Who am I to judge you because of who you are? Doesn't the bible command me to not do that very thing?

Judge not, that you be not judged. For with the judgment you pronounce you will be judged, and with the measure you use it will be measured to you. – Matthew 7:1-2

A few words ago I stated that I am sad, what I should have said was I am embarrassed. Embarrassed by the community in which I live in to have such hatred in their hearts, all in the name of God.
I feel awful as a Christian when I see my fellow brothers and sisters protest against marriage equality on the basis of Christianity.

This is embarrassing, they indeed are an abomination.

Instead why don’t we all hold signs for love on the basis of Christianity? Instead why don’t we congratulate those who want to make the commitment to their partner and marry them. And love on them as they are, instead of “fixing” them or trying to “change their mind”.

Look how much better this represents the Christian Faith!

So at this point, are you wondering what my point is?

Because we shouldn't have gotten this far in America; where gay marriage is publicized on local and national news stations and printed on every magazine cover. Straight marriage isn't celebrated in that way and it happens every single day and ends every single day as well. There is no big hoopla about that! I don’t mean that I don't think this decision should be celebrated at all but I do mean it shouldn't be used by the media to create hate and separation nor should it be used by politicians to advance their agenda. The media shouldn't have to include famous actors & actresses to “talk us into the idea”.

I will leave you with this. Whether you are a Christian or not, I hope you understood the point of this blog entry. We need to remember that God loves us, and in that same way we should LOVE others, NO MATTER WHAT

Remember:

Let each of us please his neighbor for good, to build him up – Romans 15:2

Love Generously,
Me
